Construction and opening

Construction began in 2007 and was completed in 2009 at a cost of approximately $9 million. More than $7 million of that was paid for by the federal government, with the rest being paid for by local taxes.[1] The hub was opened on September 17, 2009, and immediately began serving six bus lines, including one bus rapid transit line.[1]

At the time of opening, the West Valley Intemodal Hub was more of a bus depot than a true intermodal hub, as construction was not yet finished on the light rail line that currently serves West Valley. However, it was anticipated that light rail would serve the Hub in the near future[2] and it was referred to as an intermodal hub anyway.

Trax station

A light rail station, known as West Valley Central Station, was built at the hub and opened on August 7, 2011 to serve as the southern terminus of the Green Line. This line provides service through West Valley City, South Salt Lake, and Downtown Salt Lake City to the Salt Lake City Intermodal Hub.

Location

The hub is located at 2840 West and 3560 South,[1] in downtown West Valley City. It is on the same block as West Valley City Hall, the West Valley Justice Court, and the West Valley City Police Station (all three of which share a building) as well as the West Valley Library. Also in the area are Valley Fair Mall and the land designated for the Fairbourne Station development.
